The Aviation Industry’s Global Influence

Image
The aviation industry is a significant contributor to the economies of every country in the world. Air travel and transport have made today’s global economy possible, as accessibility enables regions and cultures to be increasingly interconnected and interdependent. Essentially the world is now a smaller place thanks, in part, to the aviation industry. The aviation industry operates with an important internal support network and, primarily, this extensive network consists of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) at all levels. GSE encompasses all services provided and equipment used from the moment an aircraft touches the runway to the time the aircraft takes off again. FBOs (fixed base operators) and MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) are aviation entities which make use of all types and sizes of GSE. From an aircraft tow tractor and power supply machine to aircraft pushback and fueling and lavatory services, everything falls under GSE umbrella. It is simply impossible for aviat...

Why High-Quality GSE is Important for Aviation Operations

Ground support equipment like aircraft tow tractor are a vital part of airport operations. GSE enable ground crews to move aircraft, transport and load cargo and perform several other critical tasks. GSE has two main categories: Non-powered and powered. Non-powered equipment includes: • Chocks: Prevent parked aircraft from moving. • Baggage Carts: Carry luggage and cargo to and from aircraft and airports. • Cargo Dollies or Trailers: Allow ground crew to move thousands of pounds of cargo. Non-powered GSE also includes products like ladders and spill containment carts. Powered GSE includes: • Refuelers: Fuel carts or fuel trucks. • Ground Power Equipment: Vehicles which supply power to parked aircraft (also known as airplane ground power unit or airplane GPU). • Airplane Tractor and Plane Tug: Used for transporting equipment and cargo, plowing snow and other important tasks. • Water Service Trucks: Units which refill an aircraft’s water supply. Other examples of power...
